Everyone raves about New York City's epic food scene, wild nightlife, and next-level shopping, but IMO, the real must-do thing when you're in NYC is to book yourself a manicure and/or pedicure appointment at one of the city's top nail salons. Whether you want a relaxing spa pedicure with a hot-stone massage and essential-oil soak (my personal heaven) or a long-lasting gel mani complete with Instagram-worthy nail art, there's a trendy NYC nail salon for you. Here, my seven favorite nail salons in Manhattan—for locals and tourists—that you need to make yourself an appointment at, like, ASAP.

1 NYC Nail Salon: Tenoverten

Love all-natural beauty? Then you'll love Tenoverten. The "clean" nail salon has a chic, minimalist vibe and uses only nontoxic products and 8-free polish during its ultra-relaxing manicures and pedicures. P.S. The hot-stone massage in the Luxe Mani and Pedi is to diiie for.

NYC locations 💅 SoHo, Tribeca, Midtown, FiDi

2 NYC Nail Salon: Jin Soon

The perfectly shaped nails and editorial manicures you see in fashion campaigns and magazines? That's all nail artist Jin Soon's handiwork—she's a total icon in the nail world. Experience the Jin Soon treatment at one of her four NYC salons (the Tribeca location is my favorite), where her team of pros gives some of the best manis and pedis in the Big Apple (yup, I just said Big Apple, lol). Just don't forget to have a cup of the green tea during your treatment—it's delish.

NYC locations 💅 East Village, West Village, Upper East Side, Tribeca

3 NYC Nail Salon: Akiko Nails

If ultra-detailed, one-of-a-kind gel nail art is what you're after, then Akiko Nails is where you need to be. The Japanese-inspired boutique nail salon is known for creating legit works of art on customer's nails, which you definitely won't find anywhere else.

NYC location 💅 Lower East Side

4 NYC Nail Salon: Paintbox

Paintbox is THE New York City nail salon for trendy nail art that you won't be able to stop taking pictures of (seriously, just check the #PaintboxNails hashtag). It has more of a studio than spa vibe (FYI, it offers only manis, no pedis) and you choose your manicure design and preferred color palette from the options in the curated look book.

NYC locations 💅 SoHo, Upper East Side

5 NYC Nail Salon: Sundays Studio

Self-care meets nail care at Sundays Studio in NYC. Customers have the option of listening to guided meditation during their manicure and pedicure—plus the studio has its own line of nontoxic, 10-free nail polishes that are used in every service.

NYC locations 💅 Midtown, NoMad, Hudson Yards

6 NYC Nail Salon: Chillhouse

Great gel and regular manis, yummy smoothies, and super-relaxing massages and facials, all in one place? Only at Chillhouse. The nail techs are meticulous—you'll get perfect nail shaping, buffing, cuticle cleanup, and painting. And the vibe? Totally chill and unpretentious (as the name suggests).

NYC locations 💅 SoHo, Lower East Side

7 NYC Nail Salon: Haven Spa

Haven is a really great day spa that happens to do a really great classic manicure and pedicure too. The price is decent ($23 for a mani, $42 for a pedi) and the quality/attention to detail is excellent. Every time I leave Haven, my nails look flawless and my feet look brand freaking new.

NYC location 💅 NoHo

Deputy Beauty Director Lauren Balsamo is the deputy beauty director at Cosmopolitan covering all things skin, hair, makeup, and nails for both the magazine and website.
